Squaring blocks question!
#1
Hi everybody! I am a new-be here but not to quilting. (30 some years!) I just finished making the disappearing 9 patch that has recently been discussed here. How and why did my squares get so out of whack? AND what is the best method of squaring them up without losing the size of the block?? There is an awful lot of pressing so maybe I got a little toooo heavy handed with my good OLD iron. :( Thanks in advance....

Welcome to the board from Sunny Southern California. I'm sure you know about checking to make sure your seams are all 1/4 " They can be stretched from pressing, try to "press" instead of moving your iron. I don't know the size of the blocks but you can take a square ruler the same size or a little bigger and trim them slightly to make them a uniform size. I imagine others will have better suggestions.

After all the quilts I have made, I was shocked at how out of whack these squares were. I "press" up and down not "ironing" pressing and seams are 1/4". I WAS on a time crunch to get this made and in the mail (like 2 days). Finished the binding @ 5 in the morning of mailing day. so I MIGHT have made some silly errors. I am going to make another as it was fun and really turned out great! I'll go slower next time.... Thanks for your quick reply!

Hi everone! This is my first post. I have been quilting for about 18 years and have been reading the post on this board for about a year. I love the beautifuyl quilts I have seen all of you make. You all just inspire me so much. Looking forward to seeing more quilts from you and I hope to one day be able to post some pictures of my own quilts for you to see.
