Default Attaching paper pieced quilt to boarder and tips please?

Am nearing completion of my project which is a large lap size with irregular edges that will need to be appliqued to a border. I am planning on making a mitered border that looks like a frame then trying to applique one side at a time to that. This is daunting to me, should I baste the whole thing first? I can not visualize how this should work and can not find anything on internet except how to applique small projects to a background. Thank for any help you might lend me.

I'm not sure that I've seen anything done the way you describe, but I would definitely baste the applique down before starting to applique. If you have room to lay the whole thing out on a hard surface, that might help to make sure everything is flat before you start.
