I am just wondering if anyone uses aurifil thread for machine applique. I normally only use mettler silk finish or machine embrodiery but I noticed that you can also use aurifil as well.
Does anyone have any opinions or suggestions?
Thanks Jackie.

I have used it with good results. I usually use Sulky threads for applique, but needed a particular color I didn't have, but did have Aurifil that matched. It was fine.

It's a great thread. I buy it here:
http://www.tristan.bc.ca/ Shipping is very reasonable and the best price for Aurifil I've found anywhere. In fact the Genziana Cotton Mako is the same thread. I buy the biggest cone of the bobbin thread. And all the doorcrashers and grab bags of Aurifil.

Thanks BellaBoo I just looked up the website. Great prices. I will have to do a bit of homework to work out which thread will work for my machine applique. Thanks so much.

I use it for both machine and hand applique. It does great and since it's 2 ply it blends really well. Working on a machine applique now called Purple Poseys from Norma Cambell and it's almost done without not one problem. It is my go to thread for everything and it's not let me down

Hi,
I have just used all Aurifil on some William Morris appliques from Michele Hill's book, it has a really nice sheen to it and the work came up very well. I have also used Mettler but was more than happy with Aurifil. I bought mine from Tristan in Canada too, no one close to me in Sydney sells it and I had tried some that I got at the Craft show here earlier in the year. It is a really great thread and the colours and range are fantastic.

I haven't yet learned machine appliqué, but Candace put me on to Aurifil from Tristans, and I LOVE it. 50 wt for piecing and hand appliqué, 28 and 40 wt for quilting. The most trouble-free thread I've ever used.

Thanks I am still learning about thread weights. I am wondering if anyone could advise me as to what thread weight is ok for machine applique.
Thanks Jackie.

Hi Jackie,
the higher the thread weight, the finer the thread. I think there are some topics about this on this board. I just checked my Mettler thread and it just has No 40 on them, I'm not sure if that's the weight, but it seems finer than 40wt to me.

I would recommend 50wt Aurifil for applique generally although I have also used 40wt and it still looks good.
