I have not specifically been a quilter, though I do sew and have made some amateur quilts/blankets.

I am hoping to make the bedding for my baby's nursery using this pattern. I am looking to use bright rather than pastel colors and I'm having a terrible time finding fabrics. :( Part of the trouble I'm having is where to look. The other is the search once I get there- how to sift through all of the stuff on fabric sites.

Here are two fabrics that have caught my eye so far- here and here

Any ideas or suggestions???? Thanks for your help!!!

i like the multi colored dots. i recently did a whole baby room ensemble using the bold colors with black incorporated. it turned out really great, plus with the bolder colors you can incorporate that as the child gets older. i personally would suggest using a stripe with those colors (that is what i did) plus some solids. i always say, the more color the better!!! good luck and have fun.

You might have better luck going to a shop where you'll be able to touch and feel, match fabric to fabric, and get the thread and other bits you'll need to finish the project.

Barring that if you want to remain online, try thousandsofbolts.com as they have a fabric search. Use "Find a Fabric", choose "extended search". When that window comes up choose "juvinile" in the color group section.

Welcome from Tennessee. I like the idea of bright primary colors, you are off to a good start.

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies!!!

I've been to a couple of shops around where I live. (Outside of Boston) Unfortunately, I've been really disappointed with the selection. :(

I'm off to try DogHouse Mom's link. :)

I have to agree (once again)with DogHouseMom the suggestion to actually touch and feel the fabric. Since you are new to quilting, a written description on a website probably doesn't mean a hill of beans to you. Find a clerk in a fabric store and tell them what you want. Let them lead you to where you need to be. If that is not right, try to describe it more. Many times I have found what I was looking for while I was walking to where I thought I wanted to go. Us quilters are odd ducks --> I mean that only in the most informed way. :-) Please, no flailing tonight. I can't take anymore.

I like the primary color dots also. The idea of incorporating black & white with the primary colors -I agree with the coordinating stripes and solids suggestion- is great visually and has lots of baby brain development research behind it (argghh we teachers never quit!!!)

I love the first one. I really love primary colors for babies, They prefer them as well. The first one would be easier to coordinate too.
