I love this idea. I picture a floppy brimmed hat. Great quilt.

It looks as if the duck was made with poor quality fabric. I would copy the block, rip off the duck and make a new one out of better fabric. The quilt is as cute as can be.

Put a sailor hat on the duck. He will look great!

I love the idea to place a hat on the duck, let us know what you decide!

Good luck,

i had one that did that. i soaked it in the 'correct mixture' of oxy clean, and had about 4 color catcher sheets in the water, then air dryed it. i believe. no, maybe i dried it a little. can't remember. turned out beautiful.

My concern is that if this block was so weak, how will the other blocks do after multiple washings? Is this the only one made with the fleece or furry fabric? I would inspect the others very carefully and maybe even wash a few more times to see how they hold up before spending too much time on the repair.
Hope the other are fine and you do know we want picture after you make the repair, right?

You could always add a item to its head. Hat, bonnet even a half egg would lok cute. Love the quilt

Perhaps my eyes are fooling me, but it looks as though another wash will take out his belly area also. Did you applique these animals? If so what fabrics are you using? Did you stabilize the applique fabric? It looks like perhaps you used a minkie type fabric for the duck - if you didn't stabilize it, there is a very soft stabilizer designed for stretchy baby fabrics and before you apply the next piece, that might be something to think about. It's such a cute quilt. I would remove the duck and either replace with another duck. You can make another duck on tear away, remove the tear away, and hand applique the duck over where the first duck was. Good luck, well worth the effort and as other have said - you will have a new trick in your bag for future reference when it's all done.

I vote for the hat idea also. Girl or boy would determine bonnet or hat.

I have had the same problem and also my colours faded more than I expected. From now on I will wash before quilting.
