I buy 1 1/3 yard for the backing, and size the top to fit.
if you want the quilt to fit a toddler bed, it should be a bit bigger.

The last time I made a baby quilt, I made it the size of the crib mattress. Not sure what the measurements were, but I believe atleast 60 long. My thought was that once the baby got out of the crib and then into the toddler bed it would be big enough to to use the big bed bedding.

THAT is a GOOD idea  makes alot of sense

I make loads of baby blankets, so I buy a king size batt, it makes 4 crib blankets... saves a few dollars.

I bought a king size batting last time. Haven't cut into it yet. I've still got 4 pkg's of crib size. :-)
