I purchased a batik pattern for the back of a quilt that I am just starting and it dawned on me that the fabric is not soft the way non-batik patterns are. Does this take away from the comfort of the quilt or will it soften after being washed?

it will soften up after washing. something to do with the dye process that makes it stiff.

You better wash it first to remove extra dye!
