Hi everyone! I have missed this forum but have been busy working on a quilt...not surprising :) So I am machine quilting in grids. The quilt is 81 x 81 and each 6 inch square is quilted in the ditch around each 6 inch square. In the next step each square will have an X grid as the next quilting step. So by then can I take the pins out? It will be quilted more...like a cross hatch I believe. Thanks!! Kim

You all have been SO helpful to me...I wish I could make each of you some blueberry crisp and serve it with ice cream...yum!

I think you could remove the pins at that point; the layers would be unlikely to shift with the SID in 6-inch blocks.

If you do have any puckering when you make the Xs, I would try spray starchig the top and backing a couple of times before continuing. (No need to iron.) That should stabilize the fabric and prevent puckers from forming

Thanks for the suggestion! Do I just spray the back and let it dry?

I think your OK to remove the pins. I can almost smell that blueberry crisp.

You could start by just spray starching the back. However, puckers can occur on the front too. If that becomes a problem, spray starch the front as well.
