I was reading the specifications for the Quilts of Valor and whoever had wrote it mentioned on the section about fabric for the backing that for the back of her quilts she used minkee (the stuff that is so soft and plushy you can't help touch it...they got body pillows at Wal-Mart made out of it and I can't help but pick one up and snuggle with it for a few seconds. Its so SOFT! Its like cuddling a kitten!) Anyways, due to the addictive nature of this fabric, I figure using it for the backing for a quilt sounds like an awesome idea. But I can't find a fabric website that sells minkee. Where do I find this wonderous fabric?

WalMart sells a lot of nice fleecy things, too, that will feel just as nice on the back of a quilt. just close your eyes, snuggle up to one, and remember it AIN'T $16 a yard. Now THAT'S comfort!

https://www.fabricdepot.com/

This company discounts fabrics 30%. Their price on Minky is $12.59 per yard, still expensive. I think Minky is 60" wide but not sure. To check price: do a search for minky. The discount doesn't show until it is in the cart.

I know www.equilter.com has it.. and I have seen it in my Keepsake Quilting catalog, but it is definitely expensive. Have you considered using fleece like you can find at Hancocks, Joann's or Hobby Lobby? It is soft and would be less expensive.

Keep in mind that this type fabric makes the quilt much warmer than normal cotton and some climates don't get all that cold.

I made a soft backing with a fabric from walmart they called it robe fabric. Kind of a velour 2.00 a yard 60 " wide. I use various fabrics from walmart for backing. I like the stripe fabric they use for mens shirts usually extra wide and dollar a yard
