I was reading this link on how to make your own batik fabric

Just was wondering if anyone has ever made their own batik? If so how did it turn out? Was it hard to do?

Sounds easy, but time consuming and with all the wonderful batiks already out, I'm sure I'd find what I want for projects.

I did small pieces with my Girl Scout troop years ago and then let them make pillows out of the fabric.

I have made my own batiks. They are relatively easy to do but very time consuming. The ones that I did turned out the way that I wanted them to. The directions given in the link above are very general directions. Changes will need to be made in how you proceed depending on the type of dye that you use. I find dyeing fabric one of the most rewarding art forms there is. Don't have any pictures of any of my dyed fabric creations on hand to show or this reply would never end.

It's fun but extremely messy and time consuming also. To get fine lines one uses a tjanting. A special "pen" with an opening to pour your melted wax in.The batiks available in the stores are well worth the money!

if you LOVE to dye your own fabrics- LOVE to create your own colors-designs---
then trying out the process of (batik-ing) is a good step to take!
it is fun- you can be VERY CREATIVE and you make a fabric no one else will ever have!

and also offer starter kits that have everything you need to make your first batiks...then pen used to apply the wax- the wax = the dyes-every thing you need to get started with out a huge investment.

and it is the perfect time of year to get outside and try some fabric dyeing/ fabric designing... :)

i (for the past 10 years) have made it a practice to include at least a small piece of my own fabric in every quilt i make...i love dying fabrics!
