They have better resists now days, so you don't have to deal with all the wax problems, that in itself adds a few problems. I've done it and had a lot of fun at it. But, is very time and space consuming.

I have no idea if there are any left, but Dharma Trading recently got a shipment of brass batik stamps from Bali. They are awesome but pricey - like $50 and up. You need to be serious about using them to pay those prices.
