Default which batting for a doggie quilt?

Can anyone give me an idea of what batting to use in a doggie quilt? Cotton, polyester, flannel or what?
I want to make sure it holds up with repeated washings. Also, dogs are between 15 and 30 lbs--so what
size would you make it?

I use a double layer of Quilt King resin treated polyester fiber for our pup quilts. They are washed about every 10 days & are still in great shape after 4 months.

I use a double layer of washed flannel. I can quilt the flannel myself and it is easy to wash.

I bought the ones for our dogs - 120 lbs. It is in two parts. The cover is washable, made like a pillowcase. The stuffing is like a pillow and filled with shredded cedar, smells good, kills fleas, etc.

I've used worn out baby blankets for batting for the quilts going to a dog rescue group. Not only are they easy to find at thrift stores but they are the right size once I cut off any binding. Depending upon the fabric used for tops and backings, some I don't use batting. For an arthritic dog, I made pillow cases with waffle foam mattressing inside (don't wash the waffle foam mattress). They've all lasted through many washings and have been well loved. I don't do much "real" quilting, mostly tied quilts. I tried using fleece as a backing but it did not hold up as well as flannel.
