Default Batting for hand quilting?

I know this has been asked before but what is the best batting for hand quilters? This time I'll save the reply for future use.

I use warm and natural or warm and white. The only hand quilting I do now is Hawaiian. I use the same batting for machine quilting

I wouldn't use any batting with scrim for hand quilting. The scrim is an extra layer to quilt through. W&N is needlepunched through scrim. Although some people hand quilt it, it is definitely not the easiest type of batting to hand quilt. Quilter's Dream Request is a popular cotton batting for hand quilters. Hobbs 80/20 is fine for both hand and machine quilting, but has a higher loft than QD.

I prefer low loft polyester batting for hand quilting. The needle moves through much easier IMHO. I used warm and natural for the last one I did, and didn't like working with it nearly as well.

Mountain Mist makes a wonderful 100 percent cotton , no scrim batting( easier for hand quilting) . It is sold as Cream Rose ( natural color) or Cream White. I bought mine at Jo'anns , using a coupon , makes it very nicely priced.

i like the hobbs heirloom or 80/20 batts- the dream batts (like dream wool & dream cotton) are also nice for hand quilting- mountain mist makes batts specific for hand quilting- their batts are not well suited to long-arm quilting
i would avoid a batt with scrim like w&n- they can be very difficult to needle & are really made for machine quilting.

Thanks, I have used Hobbs 80/20 but the Quilter's Dream Request is what I could not remember. Any other quilters have experience with QD?

Ditto......the needle didn't glide through warm and natural very well and my hands got so tired using it.

Up until recently, I have always used warm & natural - and still have some to use. I don't mind it - it's what you get used to using. But, I had to use a real light weight batting and the quilt store recommended the Quilter's Dream Request - and OMG!!! it is wonderful!!

I don't like poly batting because my needle falls thru it (LOL!!) I want my batting to have a bit of a "bite" so that i can get my needle to go where i want. BTW - i only handquilt.

I also like cotton batting because when i wash it, it shrinks up and looks vintagey...
