I should add that I also always wash a finished quilt in Synthrapol for the first time. This just ensures that any small bleeds will stay suspended in the water and rinse away (instead of settling into other fabrics).

I quit pre-washing fabric quite a few years ago, after hearing Harriet Hargrave's wisdom on the subject. It saves me a lot of drudgery so I have more time to actually quilt.

Cheers for the non-washers out there. The few times I washed, it was a mess to iron and difficult to get fabric squared up again.
I'll take my chances with the bit of shrinkage and so far so good!
