I'm trying to find a batting that is all around "good"! By that I mean it has a great drape, does not pill nor come out of the stitch holes when quilted, has some "feel" to it...it has a weight to it, meaning warmth.
I have tried a Poly and it's so light, almost a summer quilt. An 80/20, not much improvement. I'm looking for something that works for a used quilt...practical, warm....

When I want the feel and qualities you are looking for I go with Warm & White. I use cotton batting exclusively, but I am usually not particular since my quilts are all donations. I got some cotton/bamboo batting on clearance and although it worked fine for my projects, it wasn't as thick as I like. I used it with flannel since it was thinner and I already had enough bulk!

I used to use Warm & Natural all the time until I discovered Hobbs 80/20. I use that almost all the time now. I think it's a softer feel and drape than the Warm & Natural. I love the Quilters Dream Orient, but it's very expensive. You might try experimenting with 2 layers of batting and try different ones together.

I am working on a large quilt and will watch this question. The 80/20 is nice to work with, it does not need to be quilted as close as with warm and natural, I think. And that means a lot when sewing in my machine. Will watch this.

Warm and Natural is fine, but I like 80/20 the best.

My favorite batting is either Hobbs wool or Quilters Dream wool. Both are machine washable, warm, drape and define the stitches beautifully.

When I want warmth I use either wool or two layers of batting ( one cotton one poly)

I am exploring this same subject. When Fabric Depot and Connecting Threads had their batting sale on, I ordered Quilter's Dream, Hobbs 80/20, and Warm and Natural.

I am on the last legs of quilting a queen with the Warm and Natural batting. So far, I like it. I haven't used the others yet, but since I'm keeping all three quilts for my own beds, I'll be able to compare.

I have used Mountain Mist on some lap quilts and they seemed to quilt just fine...however, when sandwiching the quilt, it seemed like it pulled apart very easy and was thinner in some places than others. But when quilted, the whole thing didn't come out thinner in places...don't really know what was going on there. <scratching head>

I'm not experienced in this but I did recently get a Hobbs Tuscany Poly batt. So far just playing with it for hand quilting practice. It is very nice -- very even, has some loft but not too much. Should machine quilt well.
