So I want to make some of these, and I know I saw a thread yesterday talking about them but for the life of me I cannot find it now. However, what I am looking for is a nice simple quick pattern to use for them. I have tried to search on the internet, but I must be doing something wrong. Since I am coming up with everything but...what I want. I do have a book, but I don't like any of the patterns in it. I have lots of fat quarters, and charms so I would like to be able to use those. If any of you have made one, or have patterns for them, can you post them for me. Any suggestions would be helpful.

have you browsed the pictures catagory here on the board? go to pictures- then in the search box type in table toppers- you will see many-
you can use any block you enjoy making for table runners- disappearing 9-patch, warm wishes, 4 patches with snowballs, log cabin, pineapples, star blocks...the sky is the limit-
making (4) 12" blocks gives you a 48" runner- you can add sashing strips, borders...you can put them on point with setting triangles...i've made many runners with a french braid run---lots of options- look at your favorite quilt in a strip instead of the whole quilt...search quilted table runners for thousands to browse.

I made one and had 2 pieces of fabric. It is across the bed and a 10"drop on both sides. You can make it as wide a you want. I don't remember how wide mine was. Just sewed the two together with right sides together,leaving an opening to turn. Turn and then topstitch on the edge. My fabric was coduroy and deco fabric.

Do you have a quick quilt block you have made before and you like? Then just use that one and make a skinny quilt, just one or two blocks wide and add a border. You already have a book, so you have guidelines as to the dimensions you need.

There's a book out called "Make your Bed" that's bed runner patterns and it also has patterns for pillow shams and pillow cases. I don't remember where I got it but I got it as an ebook download so it was a little cheaper that way.

I made the Irish Chain bed runner and the main thing I discovered is definitely put the tape measure over your bed and figure out what the maximum length is!! I had to take two rows of blocks off the runner I made to keep it from being on the floor! Bed frame height and mattress depths can vary tremendously so that can make a huge difference in how long you need your runner.

Thanks for the input, I think I was trying to make this harder than it really is. I can see where a pattern is not really necessary, just use a block you like.

​I second the book Make your Bed: quilted bed runners, pillows and more to suit your style by Leslee Evans. I borrowed it from my library and it had some very pretty runners in it.

I made my first one harder than it was. Just find a quilt you like and make as much of it as you need for width and add the border. Picking blocks you like works well too. I just love mine and they do help keep your feet warm.
