My oldest D has suddenly taken and interest in quilting. YIPPEE YAH!!!! She has always been the career girl. She doesn't own a machine, but will get one if really sparks her interest. HEH! HEH! She doesn't know that it is addictive and I'm not going to tell her. Now she wants to start at hand quilting and piecing, which is just fine, but I can't give her much help as I have never done it. So while she was here in GA with us for a couple of days after Christmas I gave her some instructions on crumb quilting with a paper foundation.
My question is.... is this the best one to try,she hasn't started yet, or is the one I saw on the Tutes of Patricia's Spanish Butterfies in my Pineapple shampoo, an easier one which makes a beartiful block and looks like you worked really hard at it. By the way Patricia I really like that my scraps will take a beating. That name really sticks.
I am going to give her this site addy so she can look for herself and if she gets into trouble it will help her. Or if there is a pattern someone can suggest that is a great beginner for had piecing please this inquiring mind wants to know.

BillsBonBon, I'm sure whatever you teach her she'll love. When I have new students I tend to lean toward the 9 patch/rail fence. It's a great way to learn the basics. People who love a good challenge may not find it terribly interesting at first but if you're dealing with learning rotary cutting, measuring, fabric choices, plus a more difficult block it will be overwhelming. There is a wonderful tutorial about the 9 patch....it's ShellyQs I believe.

Thanks Bunches Retorgirl, it is exciting when a grown daughter wants to do the same thing that means a lot to the Mom. We are going to have lots of fun with this.
