Question Bernin 740

Does anyone have this machine with the stitch regulator? Thinking of buying a new machine and love the regulator idea.

I have an older Bernina 1530 and I haven't know anybody who was truly satisfied with the BSR. I would take a sandwich sample and test it out at your local dealership. The only thing I found to make perfect stitches is when a computer does the quilting.

I have the Bernina 440 with the BSR and I love it. I don't use it anymore, since I now have a longarm, but if I were still quilting on a DSM I would definitely go for the BSR. My friends who have it have been quite happy with it too. Sometimes people have problems, usually because they're moving the fabric too fast for the machine's speed to keep up. This is not a problem with the BSR; you wouldn't be able to do FMQ without a speed regulator and move your fabric that quickly. The other problems people attribute to the BSR are usually problems that you would have with any quilting on a DSM - fabric not moving freely so the stitches are bunched up, tension problems, etc.

I have an old Bernina Artista 200 to which I added a BSR when they came out. I love, love, love the BSR and use it each time I do quilting. At the time I purchased the BSR, I thought it was extremely expensive; but I have used it so much that it has been worth every cent. It did take a great deal of practice before I was pleased with my stitching; but now I can't imagine quilting without the BSR.

I have the Bernina 780. Bernina does BSR like no other. I have a Stitch Regulator for my Babylock Tiara and it's completely useless. I had no idea before buying it, that not all stitch regulators are created equal. Bernina does it right.

I bought my Bernina 440 because I wanted the BSR. Free-motion quilting intimidated me and it took awhile to get the nerve to use it. I made up some practice sandwiches and just started doing it. One thing I found helpful is to slide the speed control to the slowest. Now I feel much more comfortable with it. Love the results!
