Your going to love once you get a class or two under your belt....trust me! I felt the same when my husband bought me my new Janome. It's good for our little grey cells to learn new things.

I got a Bernina 185 for Christmas in 2005. I just took lessons to use it last year....I was so intimidated by it that I thought of selling it and buying a machine that was user friendly...A member of this board told me to go take lessons from a Bernina dealer.....Yup...it was me and not the machine...What a treasure the machine turned out to be....Glad I did not sell it....It is a wonderful machine....Go get lessons..You won't regret it....

My DH surprised me with a Bernina 440QE with a BSR a couple of years ago. I almost fainted. I had no idea he was listening to me when I talked about this great new invention. You will love your machine. I know everyone is telling you to breathe easy and take the classes -- I agree, but also be sure to check out youtube for tutorials. I have learned a lot from youtube. Try searching both Bernina and your model number.

My husband did the same for me at Christmas 6 years ago when he bought a 440QE. Sit down with a cup of tea or coffee and read the owners manual, front to back, then play with it a while and then read it again to make more sense. Take the class or classes as soon as you can. Don't let it overwhelm you. Start with just using the straight stitch and let yourself grow into it. There is no law that says you have to use all of the features within a certain time.

Trust everyone. I have an old bernina (almost 40 years old) and a newer one about 4 years old. Wouldn't have anything else. As far as threading you don't have to "thread" anything but the needle everything just slides in place (and you have a needle threader) once you get it figured out you will love how easy and quickly it threads. Bernina's run so nicely. I had a repairman tell me a while back that he doesn't repair Bernina's because they just run for years and years. My opinion, you got the best. I have had 4 Bernina's and by trading up only, just got the 830. I love it. I haven't had the time to devote to emboirdery lessons yet, but am able to easily do monograming. At one time, we lived 100 miles from a dealer. I had trouble with a thread and called my dealer. He was able to walk my husband through and easily tighten a screw only. The mechanics are so easy on it. I do hope you will take the classes. You will be set for sewing and it will be a good friend for a very long time.
