I use the DMC 5 Perle Cotton. I also use it for when I do buttonhole stitching by hand.

I use Pearle cotton, crochet thread or embroidery floss. I vary what I use depending on the look I want. A bright, multi-colored quilt I will use bright emb. floss.

I have used yarn and embroidery floss. If I use the embroidery floss I put a drop of Fray Check in the center of the knot to keep if from coming undone.

I did have a friend whose mom tied her quilts with synthetic yarn & then melted the ends to seal them.

I'm curious about the answer to this question, too, as I'm hoping to make a picnic quilt for next summer. Wondering if anyone has tied a quilt either with Aurifil lana thread or Aurifloss.

I had to quit with hand quilting, and not able to machine quilt so I started tying quilts. I have used yarn, didn't like it after it was washed, have used floss and crochet thread with knots coming untied even with a square knot. I wonder does the perle cotton hold its knot? You ladies/gents have all the answers. I don't comment often but read your wonderful advice every morning. Smiles

For tying them I use Pearl Cotton. For hand stitching I use DMC embroidery floss.

I have used all of the above, even butchers twine. It's just the look I want that dictates what I use.
