I have just finished a double scrap quilt and was wondering if I can use a combination of different fabrics to do binding? I have a small inner border that is a solid off-white and a larger outer border that is scrappy. I'm having a hard time picturing it in my mind.

Has anyone ever done this before?

I have seen quilts with scrappy borders and they looked great!

I've never done it, but a picture might help us visualize it.

I like to make continuous bias binding borders, and have pieced together fabric before making it into my binding. It worked just fine for me, but there are a lot of seams.

Several of the quilts that I have made had scrappy pieced binding. I do this instead of stashing the left over fabric from the quilt.

I cut my strips and then I sew them together just like regular binding except I use a little bit larger seam allowance!

Oh yes, I did one and love it. I used all the fabrics from the quilt in the binding.

I gathered all my left over bindings from other projects and stitched them together for the binding on a scrappy quilt. It turned out wonderful! Just the right touch.

Ok, thanks guys. I am going to use leftovers to do the binding. It should be interesting!

I think it would look great but would advise that you sew diagonal seams when attaching the different fabrics. I think it will look better and be less bulky.

Can't wait to see the finsihed pic!

I have used a scrappy binding on two of my quilts. Though, it was all red scraps, it looked great!
