Thread: Block pattern?

I am thinking of a quilt that looked like an Irish Chain but it was X's alternated with plain blocks. Can anyone think of what would that would be called?

Would a nine-patch, or a 25-patch (5x5), or any odd-number patch, with diagonals done in high contrast to background, give you the effect you want? Alternating these with plain blocks, as you said. There is something called "nine-patch chain" but I don't think it's what you want.
