    Block Size Question

I have a lot of triangles that I cut off larger pieces to make HST. I have sewn these smaller pieces together and I can trim them out to 1 3/4" to finish at 1 1/4". My question is......is a block that size easy to match up with other blocks? Or should I just trim them down to 1 1/2" for a 1" block? I am such a miser when it comes to waste of fabric. Or I suppose I could just piece all these small HST together to make a doll quilt with pinwheels or something. Just wondering.

I think that size is good because if you put 4 together ( like pinwheels) you would have 2 1/2" squares. Nice, workable size.

Yes, if you made a pinwheel with 4 of those, it would end up as a 3" raw block, and finish at 2.5". So you could pair 4 of those with squares cut at 3".

Usually blocks finish at round numbers. If you make them to do pinwheels, then if you used a background square, you would need to cut that at the same size the pinwheel blocks would be 2.5" finished.
