Thank you all for your responses. It is appreciated. I have experimented in the past and there has been feedback before and thought the quilting board members would know better ad give me sound advice. Lovely to know that there isn't a set rule as such which is what I was led to believe. It sort of stops us being creative and that sometimes spoils it!

I like 9" blocks most of the time, but it just depends on the quilt and the pattern. If I am using a medallion in the middle, the border blocks will be dictated by the size of that so all fits together. There is really no set size except what you want to do

I like the 12" blocks as well and since I am usually making queen quilts that size works well.
Check out Marcia Hohn's www.quilterscache.com/QuiltBlocksGalore.html site.
She has hundreds of free quilt block patterns each with a sample of what the
quilt will look like. She has sections where you can browse by quilt block size.

No, No, No, Honey, there ain't no quilt police around this here place. We simply do NOT allow them to come in and bother us.
Go ahead and cut out whatever size block looks good to you with the pattern and color you have in your hot little hands. If it looks too big, cut it down. If it looks too small, make a bigger one. No one is going to look through your computer and point fingers at you!!!
Sew, Sew, SEW. Have fun and you will have a sense of accomplishment that will thrill you. And another thrill when you give it to someone who loves it to death.
