ok heres the question is there someone who can give me a list or a link to tell me the # of blocks needed to do different size quilts. I want the #'s for 4 in - 12 in blocks and all the different sizes from baby - king thanks in advance

I've got that information somewhere on the computer, but only found for 12" blocks. I'll look some more and post when I find it. I don't remember what site I got it off of, but it was off the net.

Quilts without a border

If you aren't using a border, the following will be helpful in figuring how many 4" squares you need. These sizes are for comforter size quilts, not bedspread size.
Crib size (42" x 50") = 168 squares (12 across by 14 down)
Twin/single size (69" x 90") = 520 squares (20 across by 26 down)
Full/double size (84" x 90") = 624 squares (24 across by 26 down)
Queen size (90" x 96") = 728 squares (26 across by 28 down)
King size (104" x 96") = 840 squares (30 across by 28 down)

The chart is meant to be an estimate only and to serve as a guideline. Fabric widths do vary. For the purpose of this guide, I calculated the fabric as one yard in length and 40" in bolt width. Remember errors in rotary cutting will reduce the number of fabric squares you will get from one yard of fabric.

Here then is the chart of approx. how many fabric squares you can cut from one yard of fabric which is 40" in width:

Cut size of fabric square - 2 1/2" - number of squares per yard - 224

Cut size of fabric square - 3 1/2" - number of squares per yard - 110

Cut size of fabric square - 4 1/2" - number of squares per yard - 64

Cut size of fabric square - 5 1/2" - number of squares per yard - 42

Cut size of fabric square - 6 1/2" - number of squares per yard - 30

Cut size of fabric square - 7 1/2" - number of squares per yard - 20

Cut size of fabric square - 8 1/2" - number of squares per yard - 16

Cut size of fabric square - 9 1/2" - number of squares per yard - 12

Cut size of fabric square - 10 1/2" - number of squares per yard - 9

Remember, these are only approx. numbers based on one yard of fabric sized 36" x 40" and assuming no waste in rotary cutting. As any quilter knows, rotary cutting fabric is not a perfect art form - different fabrics will stretch after being pre-shrunk and cutting perfect lines can be quite difficult. Real life cutting results may not yield exactly the same numbers as in the chart every time.

I have never seen such a complete breakdown for block requirements anywhere; not even in all the wonderful quilting books, magazines etc. out there. Believe me, I think all your work will be very very appreciated by all we "still learning" folks out there.
