Default Blue bobbin case - Janome 8900

I've read several references to a blue bobbin case for the Janome 8900 when using it to FMQ. I can find blue bobbins, but not a blue bobbin case. Could someone explain it in more detail, or even provide a part number from yours? Thanks.

I think it's the blue bobbins, not a blue bobbin case - I've never seen a blue bobbin case before! I have blue bobbins that were sold to me by a dealer and they never mentioned a corresponding case, so I'll be interested to see if it exists. :-)

Hi

I have a blue bobbin case for FMQ and I use it all the time. It is an extra bobbin case, that has a blue dot at the place where the threat leaves the case and is put out and then up towards the needle. The normal Janome bobbin case has a red dot at that place.
It is a normal bobbin case just with a looser adjusted thread tension. Since a slightly lower tension is required for FMQ one could also just loosen the thread tension at the red case. It is however more convenient to change the bobbin case, instead of everytime readjusting the tension when changing from piecing to quilting and back.

The blue bobbin case is not really blue, it's black like your regular one. It just has a blue dot on it. The regular bobbin case has a red dot on it. It is used for FMQ or embroidery when you need a looser tension. It has nothing to do with the blue colored bobbins or the pink ones for that matter that are collector items from Janome.

Ah, Rainbowcat beat me to it. Thanks.

I thought the blue dot was for bobbin work? I didn't realize it was for FMQ too ...

Waste of money! Just adjust your regular bobbin if you are using a thin thread

Not so for me. I have a Janome 6600P and I FMQ on it. I was having some tension issues that I could not resolve. My Janome dealer suggested the blue dot bobbin case. Made all the difference in the world. Worth the money for me.

Thank you! I don't have a Janome dealer anywhere near me, so have to rely on gathered knowledge to find what I want and then request the item from the dealer. For example, at a quilting retreat last week I discovered there is a cone holder for the Janome 8900 that includes a different thread path thing-a-ma-jig that fits into the second spool pin hole. I wondered why the thread kept jumping out of the slot when using a cone stand. Now I know why. I'm off to order both the cone holder and blue bobbin case, now I know how to describe what I want.

Any other option for the 8900 you think I might need? I did get the 1/4" accufeed foot and find it very helpful.

As to "wasting money", I figure if I've spend upwards of $2,000. on the machine, I'm willing to spend another $50 - 60. to get it working the best way possible.

the blue-dot bobbin case made a huge difference for me when i was using the MC6600P.
it wasn't necessary for the 8900.
