I had the smaller Simplicity bobbin winder which handles more than one kind of bobbin...Class 15 bobbins, Viking bobbins, etc. I did not like it because the bobbin would stop winding before it got filled up all the way. I just bought the Simplcity Deluxe model...haven't tried it yet...hope to do that tomorrow (Tuesday). I have several prewound size L bobbins which I can stil use on my DSM. Still, it will be neat to rewind those bobbins onto Class 15 for my Bailey. Besides, these bobbins are already paid for, lol.

Thanks so much. I wanted mainly for my long arm because like u said I don't like the way it winds and it is nice to be able to wind a new one when u need it while quilting.
I will definitely give that company a call as this is the second time I hear good words about them from a different forum.

APQS makes one. It came with my machine so I do not know the cost, but it is very heave and works great! Have you considered just going to pre-wound bobbins.

I have the original Sidewinder and use it to wind bobbins for my Bailey, Singer, and White machines with NO problems.

I mentioned yesterday that I would try out the Simplicity Deluxe Winder. I used the cone and the regular thread spool with success. It has a tension disk, a speed control button and an on/off button which the smaller model did not have. I found if I use higher tension and higher speed control, it winds quite evenly. Otherwise, it winds unevenly and you end up with less thread on the bobbin. There is a button by the side of the bobbin holder which helps you determine how full the bobbin should be. Works great. I also tested winding from the size L bobbin (with cardboard sizes) to Class 15 bobbin which my Bailey uses. It works well as long as I take off one cardboard side off; this helps the thread to spin off the bobbin smoothly. Since this bobbin is relatively lightweight, I hold the other cardboard side down with my fingertip so that it does not fly off the thread post. At this point, it is a keeper, smile.

Hello, as to the one on Fancyquilt.com, mine is the same but I can't remember where I purchased it back 10 years ago. At that time, they only had one model for very few machines as they were just getting started I think. Anyway, I told them I'd like one that could wind the Neb bobbins, Babylock and my green bobbins for the Designer 1 (Viking). They made a special spindle that I could change out for the different bobbins. Since then I basically used the winder just for my Juki bobbins which neither spindle fit so I added painter's blue tape to one spindle to make it fit. Every once in a while I'd have to replace the painter's tape but it worked just fine for me. Since then I've sold my Juki and replaced it with an Innova which comes with its own winder.

You can purchased a bobbin winder simular to the white one that was posted, only it is black, through Linda's Electric Quilts.

I have the sidewinder deluxe and love it! I wind the bobbins for my long arm as well as my "regular" machines. I don't have to touch the tension on it - I found that perfect spot that works on all of my machines. I never use the machine to wind a bobbin anymore - so much quicker on the sidewinder!!
