I just finished DS quilt for Christmas except for the binding.
I inadvertantly cut the binding strips at 2" instead of 2 1/2 "
I sewed it on from the front by machine and turned and pinned it to the back to hand sew down. It is narrow so all the binding is on back of quilt. It looks good that way actually but wasn't sure how many quilting rules I broke doing it this way. Should I take it off and start over with larger binding strips ?

Nope, if it looks good to you, it was inteneded to be that way. If you say nothing about it, no one will ever know anything except you made a great quilt!.

To provide an option, you could trim a small amount from where the seam is (usually 1/4" wide, but be careful.) You don't want that seam to get too thin. This will give more room for the binding.

I agree that leaving alone is the best solution, if it visually works for you.

Thanks everyone ! I will leave it. I think it really does look good this way. Especially because the border on the front is striped fabric that looks finished on it's own.
I appreciate the input very much !

I always cut my bindings 2 1/4". I wouldn't worry about it. Actually quilts for show are supposed to have finished binding 1/4" wide . . . mine doesn't get quite that narrow!

I would leave it your own creative binding, no rules, so you are okay!
