And I'm unsure how to do the bottom.

I'm going to sew the front and back together, but I don't know how to do a flat bottom.

I have a couple of bag patterns, but they are more complicated than I want to make this. I want this to be an easy sew.

    Can anyone help me?

Are you trying to get the bottom to be like a paper grocery bag?

Open up your bag so that the side seam meets up with your bottom seam. Measure in the distance you want your bottom to be, I usually measure in 2 to 2 1/2" for a 4" wide bottom. It will look like a triangle. Sew that line and cut off our excess.

Look at our mystery tote bag site and I think it is step four that shows how to do the grocery bag bottom - if I can do it, anyone can.

    http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Tote-Bag

If you scroll down a ways on this it shows how to do the mitered corner thing.

There are probably other videos out there too

I googled "tote bag bottom - how to make"

You might come up with better search words.

SSpinglers instructions are good - I just need pictures, too.

Sew it together around the side & bottom seams then with it inside out flatten it lining up the side seam with the bottom seam. You will have a triangle sort of. Decide how wide you want the bottom to be and sew straight across the "bottom" of that triangle. Be sure to measure the same distance at the other end. Turn it back rightside out and you have a flat bottom.

If you want a stiff bottom cover a piece of heavy cardboard or any heavy material and either just sit it in or handstitch it in.

If you have more questions pm me or I'm sure others here can explain it also.

Thank you all for all of the help!!!

I was all done a bag for my sister, except for the straps, when I discovered that the pocket was not in the right place. I can take the pocket off, but I won't be able to reattach it unless i hand sew it and I don't know how well that will go since the lining is already stitched to the bag. I also don't know how I am going to sew the lining down. I thought that I might stitch in a couple of places on the bottom.

It was a bag that I had quilted. It was allot of work only to see that the pocket does not line up with one of the sides.

I am leaving for Delaware very early Wednesday morning and I don't have time to remake a quilted bag, so I thought that I would try to make a bag that wouldn't take as much time.

    Thank you all again.
