Oh QuiltE you are doing so well!!!!! I think you get a gold star for keeping up LOL. Your blocks are going to be very soft and soothing I think...I can't wait to see how the darker green is going to be incorporated in there.

*blush* Thank you
YKViv!

I'm like you though ... I tend to do my own thing and make what I want, with what I want and when I want!!! ....... with no predetermined notions as to what will happen to it after it's finished. That way the only pressure I have is whatever I cause myself and sometimes that can be too much! I sure can't blame anyone else for it. I too, let my quilts "talk" to me, and often as I work along, I figure out who it is for ... and with that, sometimes I make changes to personalize it a little. more.

For this mystery, I was determined to make it from my stash ... while I have a huge stash, I found that I could not come up with a 3-fabric combo that'd work. Had lots of combos with enough for 2 of the fabrics, but none where there was enough of all three, so ended up buying the purple ... despite all the many purples I had! I figured if it was going to be a Mystery I might as well make it a total risk ... rather than going with the "safe" fabrics. Besides, I'm "cheap"!!!!

As I work with it, I am finding the quilt to be soft and soothing, as you suggested ... and with just enough spark and sparkle with that purple. Maybe I am getting to like it too much, and will keep it?

Another difference in your mystery ... our LQS is not having any classes or GTGs during the process. So I have no clue what fabrics the others are using ... and the only people that I have discovered who are doing it, are because they happened to have been at the LQS when I pick up the next Clue. We get a phone call or email to say it's ready, and then just drop by when we wish. There is supposed to be a final reveal GTG after people have a chance to finish the quilts up.

Take care of that migraine ... and don't push yourself to far and hard too soon .... or yikes! It'll be back with full vengeance. Do take care!!!

Thankyou Yukon Viv
I decided the pheasant feathers and the stone inspired for my husband. I bought the fabric then did not know what I would make with it. Then when this mystery opportunity came up I hoped the pattern would work out. My bigger concern is the directional feature of the feathers as I did not notice it until later and so many pieces were sewn on in random order. So now I am living with it.

And am going to be watching for your next steps in the BCS!

Now that I know what a PhD is I willl try to post my finished project. Funny thing is that my husband gave me a gift certificate for Valentines some years back and that is what started me in quilting so I made the first one for him. I picked out the fabric with him in mind so you will see some similarities on the colour palette (hmm I do not know how to spell that)

So when I look at it the yellow does not jump out quite so strongly as it does in this pic

So it could be that I'm working (not working) on something that really isn't my type fabric. I did go into it thinking it would be a great gift at Christmas for someone in my family, again something I don't usually do. I love to make quilts and projects without a purpose and when I'm done they always end up having a perfect home to go to.

So it's time to buck up and deal with my issues and just do it. I'm off work today as I went home with a migraine yesterday...my eyes are still a tiny bit sore and my neck hurts but I'm getting ansty sitting here on the couch.
I hope you are feeling better now!
I can't remember if you have posted any pics. What clour way did you chose then of the deesignaed fabrics.

Oh and i was thinking it still is a mystery as it is a mystery quilt so it will be a mystery as to who it will be just right for!!!!

OOOOOHhhh BCQLaur .... Love it!!! Great mix of batiks. Autumn colours are my favourites ... and so why I'm jumping with excitement to see your DH's and why I want to see more of your feathers.

About the directions of your feathers ... You don't know which way the block is going to end up when its all assembled, so I don't think I'd fret too much about them.

One of my first quilts was a slash the stash similar to yours ... we did a lot more cuts and kept them sstraight and square. I think we started with 14 or 16 inch blocks? Here's a pic ....

Hi YukonViv
did I miss something there? I thought there were three colours for this quilt and that QuiltE had them all sewn in. I guess I thought the drk grn background was to have contrast when she was showing us her progress.

QuiltE
Are you planning on adding the dark green a little later as things go on? Is it perhaps your backing?

Wow I love to see other work. This is a great quilt! It must have been one of the hooks that got you deeper into quilting. Did you keep it? what size is it. Mine is a lap.
Have a great day, gotta get off to work.
