Default Border ideas please

I recently posted the picture of what I am working on for my GS. The problem is, I am stuck. I need an additional 12 inches all around to finish up the quilt top. I was going to piece some stars with border on top and bottom but my Hubby thinks the stars detract from the rest of the quilt. So I just am not sure what to do from here. I have tried laying several different fabrics beside it but nothing seems to look right to me.

Thanks guys for any ideas you might have.

How about repeating the borders that you already have? You could do another light one and then the current outside border.

Is this going to be a bed quilt? If so, the stars would be on the sides, not the top. Either way, I think stars would be a fantastic idea : )

Yes, bed quilt. I was thinking just the stars on the 4 corners. Boy I have learned the greatest lesson of all---never skimp when buying fabric. I do not have enough of the outside border you see to do another border and cannot find anymore. I got it at JoAnnes and apparently they do not carry it anymore. I could get some more of the star fabric that you see the most of but wondering if that would be overkill. Right now my only thought is to do two 3 inch navy borders with a 6 inch print in the middle. I could add some of the picture squares to the 4 corners instead of stars.

I made a quilt that the outside border had stars in each corner only and it looks beautiful!

I think it needs a white border next to the current border. Then what about a red, white, and blue stripe, either from a striped fabric or pieced? I think I would make the outer border blue. This could be done incorporating a star in the corners. I'm thinking maybe 2", 5" 5" or 2", 4", 6".

I like the idea of stars also, perhaps a plain border quilted with stars for one

The red star fabric in the center of the quilt would make a great wide border. Just repeat some of the borders and add the red last.

This is a very nice quilt.

I like the idea of stars in the corners. Then I would do a plain border, say a red or navy blue.
