Hey ya'll, I'm working on a Relay for Life Raffle Quilt. I've desided to go with blocks from 2 different swaps I was in using applique blocks from FatCat.com. Someone had suggested that instead of sashing, I go around each block with a coordinating color.

Now I can't decide what color to use as a border or even if I should put on a border. Border--Yes? No? Color? Solid? Print? Rainbow? HELP!!!!

A black border would finish it beautifully and make all the great colors pop, IMHO.

Black or white border, to set off the colors, then bind with mulit colors. Beautifu quilt for a terrfic cause.

That was my suggestion ... I'm honoured .... and *whew* I like the results!

My thoughts right now would be sew it up and get a good look at it when it's all together, as it'll be tied together more and you'll have a better idea. I think it definitely needs something to frame up all the different borders, though I'm not sure what.

Start with some of the fabrics already in the quilt ... I'm having a hard time "seeing" what colours the fabrics are that you already have used, so I'm not sure if these ideas would work or not. My first thoughts would be the ribbon or border of the middle one on the 2nd row or perhaps the Angel's dress or the border for the middle one in the 3rd row. I'm zeroing in on those two blocks, as they are further from the outside border, rather than right against it!

As usual ... audition a bunch and see what looks right. And I'll look forward to seeing what results!

It is beautiful! What a nice quilt and for such a good cause. I think it needs sashing between blocks and rows then a border on outside. Sashing would be nice in the white and then a shaded or marbled fabric like the purple ribbon has. However, black or dark tan. But just my opinion. Whatever you do it is going to be gorgeous. Teresa

I'm sorry, the light in my sewing room is really bad during some times of the day.

The colors around the different blocks are:

First Row---Lavender--Rose--Light Rust/brown
Second Row---Pale Green---Redish Brown---Deep Turquoise Blue
Third Row---"Shocking" Pink---Dark Green---Orange
Fouth Row---Dark Brown---Dark Purple---Plum


I'm thinking of doing "quilt as you go" and have where the solids come together ragged/a blending of colors. The back of each block will be a coordinating color except probably the bottom center block. I'm going to put the names of all the folks in the swap, date of Relay event and a Relay for Life patch on the back of that one.

I do like those different borders - good idea QuiltE. I agree it would profit from having borders. I'm sure you will sell lots of raffle tickets with it.

Thanks for the colours ... I'm still thinking as per my original suggestions. Keep the border simple, as there's enough going on already, and too much would complicate and create more of a jumble than a pleasant framing.

I think the blocks would look good sewn together as you have them laid out then do a thin round of white like the background fabric. Personally I think then I would take colors from all the borders and do a creative border from them whether it be rails, checker board, some type of mixed blocks and strips in various sizes, etc.
