Has anyone been told it is necessary to have a 6" border on full, queen and king bed sizes? I was told this recently and I don't really care for a border that wide.

I love your play on words, the Border police- I guess they must be the Quilt police but much more specialized! There are plenty of old quilts that have no borders at all. I never heard this 6" rule, and I have been quilting for many years, been to lots of quilt shows...

What was the reason given for that particular size border being necessary?

I'm currently debating (mentally) whether to have any border at all on my queen size quilt. If I do put one, it will be the first time for me to do a border.
