Default How to quilt a spider quilt?

I've just completed a scrappy spider quilt top.
I need suggestions on how to quilt it. I can do wavy lines outlining the rings of the octagons, but I am at a loss as to how to quilt the crosses/stars (not sure what to call them).

    Any ideas? Thanks

It's just a top for now. About 80 inch square.

I played with color, it is meant to be yellowy/orangey in the middle, emanating out to the blue-er tone border.

It is all scrappy, the width of the strips are not the same throughout, so the points are not supposed to meet (disclaimer to the quilt police. LOL!)

I wouldn't do an overall squiggly stitch; that wouldn't fit. But what they call "shadowing" or "outlining" would be great. That way the back would be another version of the front. The stitching could be inside some of the bigger ones, or both inside and outside, since it is a big quilt. To reinforce it more securely you could run a stitch between the designs in a straight line both ways. I am not a fan of lots of professional style quilting unless that is the purpose of the quilt design. Your design is already well established. It is a fun quilt. I hadn't realized it was called a "spider" quilt!

Oh your quilt top is lovely....be proud of it......
I would do a simple loop-de-loop on it, in perhaps even clear thread so as not to take away anything from
    the colors or pattern...
Are you going to put any borders on it ???? maybe a solid black to picture frame your art !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Your Spider Web Quilt is lovely. Since the feature will be the scrappy pattern, I think the quilting will be secondary. I would do a free motion spider web inside each web and a circular pattern in each section between (like a flower) or a vine/meandering pattern between them. To me that would look like spider webs in the flower garden. It will be smashing - no matter what you select.

this was my first thought, too
but i might shadow/echo all of the star sections from the outside to the center.

Thanks for all the inputs. Agree that the quilt top design is strong, so the quilting should be kept simple in order not to detract from the design.

I plan to SITD through the star shape and the rest of the quilt and then do spiderweb patterns in the web. I may decide to just do the horizontal and vertical lines SITD if I think all all 4 directions through the spiderweb part may make the centers too dense.
