For HAND quilting I have some special thread that I think is thicker than machine quilting thread. It's made by Guttermann.

O'k I always use Coats & Clarks thread for my own hand quilting, but when I quilt for others sometimes they have sent me Guttermans and I like that, but I was wondering if any one has use Aurifil for hand quilting or is that just for Long arm machines? I refuse to use Mettlers because it is so hard to thread and you waste more becasue you have to constatntly cut the end to get it threaded.

Iamquilter asked "I was wondering if any one has used Aurifil for hand quilting or is that just for Long arm machines"?

I believe Aurifil thread is a finer guage thread. Wonderful for sewing, especially in the bobbin because you can get a lot of thread on the bobbin and therefore don't have to fill them quite as often. I don't think I'd want to use it for handquilting unless it was something that was very soft and fine. It is wonderful thread in my experience, but I want my handquilting to show. It may also come in different sizes, but that I've used is finer. That would be my reason for choosing something different.
