I have a friend at work that wants to surprise his wife with a lap quilt for Xmas. He saw my office wall quilt that I made using the Eagle panel (from the Quilts of Valor series.) I added a keyboard border of matching fabrics and then a second border that reads as a solid that matches the brown of the Eagle. He asked if I can make something along those lines but put Pres. Obama in it and use ethnic prints.
I looked online and I saw Obama panels and fat quarters, but all are in patriotic colorways. Are there ethnic prints that could match? The AfricanAm. prints I have seen have a lot of gold and greens in them. Has anyone made or seen anything like this? I would love any suggestions and pix anyone can offer. Thanks in advance. Jan

i bought 5 when he was elected, in 5 different colors. they were $8 each. they're probably cheaper now. LOL!!

i'm trying to plan a quilt around them. it's on my bucket list.

Remember Hawaiian quilting, too, could be incorporated.

http://www.4my3boyz.com/category/patriotic_fabric/ Here is where I saw the fat quarters I mentioned. I don't see how these could be used with anything but patriotic prints, but maybe?

Or, remember President Obama's mother collected and studied batiks. And didn't he live in Indonesia?

Hmmm interesting food for thought!
I also tried to find a MLK panel and thought perhaps the two together would be inspirational, but I didn't find any!

this fabric would work well with the brown bandana panel

http://www.overrainbow.com/cgi-bin/S...browngeometric

and this one with the brown panel

http://www.annsfabricsandcrafts.com/...pid=1#11296131

this one would work with any panel

http://www.overrainbow.com/cgi-bin/S...16-blackstripe

these two would go with the panels too

hope that helps

You didn't say if you wanted to do it or not. You can always claim to be a Republican. lol

Good luck finding what you need.
