I'm laying out my very first quilt batting and the it has wrinkles I haven't been able to smooth out. Is it supposed to rest, or do I iron it, or do you just sew the wrinkles into the quilt, did I buy wrong??? It looks horrible on top of my beautifuly ironed top. I just want my first quilt to be as perfect and beautiful as possible and this little wrinkle episode seem to be jeopardizing that. Any suggestion? Thank you, much appreciated!

I spray water on the wrinkles & put it in the dryer till it's dry.
That usually takes care of the wrinkles.

I hang mine as opened out as possible over the bannisters for a few days. I have heard some ppl say they put it through a warm tumble drier (I don't have one) and that is supposed to get the creases out. Make sure it's completely flat and smooth before you sandwich your quilt - wrinkles WILL show through and spoil your beautiful top!

Hope this helps. :D

I throw mine in the dryer with a damp wash cloth.

Panic has left the building, thank you! Out here in the boonies with no washer or dryer, my batting is now hanging from the loft as a reminder of things to come. Thank goodness I have another quilt project to pasify me until then. Thank you very much. I'll try the dryer when I get my washer and dryer hookups. Sounds like it might fluff it up and even pre-shrink it a little?? Thanks again.

I used to iron it, but now I spritz it w/water and put in the dryer. Comes out just as well and is much easier than ironing it!

This is the second time in two days, I read about ironing on batting. Doesn't that mess some of them up? like the polyesters? don't they melt or something?

I only use cotton batting. Not sure about poly, but I would expect you can only iron on low, if at all.

I hang mine on the line and spritz with water. If it's raining I HAVE laid it out over the kitchen table after spritzing and let it rest after I smooth it down.

I'm not going to admit to doing the foolish thing............well, ok, I often do foolish things,  but if you remember last Christmas I was making stockings for the elderly in our county and I happened to 'iron' a stocking side with the ploy batting..........YEP, it melts!

That's the one thing I use the poly batting for, those stockings for donations. Broke my heart to have to 'rippit'

Hugs,
Sharon

hmmm, if it's poly batting i can't think why it has wrinkles that won't smooth out when you lay it on your quilt backing. it should stay put. so don't iron!!!
