Give your local Bernina dealer a call. I happened to stop by mine today to pick up some thread and they told me they'd just received a memo from Bernina that they were aware of problems with thread breaking on the 820s and they were going to send a computer update that should help. I thought it was just me, but apparently it's happening a lot.

You know, I do feel like my thread was maybe catching on the spool. I'll have to try moving it to the other holder. I'll ask my Bernina dealer tomorrow. I plan on going there anyway. I have an Artista 640, but I'll still ask. Thanks. - Cynthia

I used to thread my machine so the spool unwound from the back, I flipped the spool over so it unwinds from the from the front and it works better??? Not sure why but something to try.

Oh I had that problem just the other day, here I had the spool on with the thread catcher where you start the thread off the spool, on the wrong end and everytime the thread hit it, it broke. check that out too.

I have to tell you that my 630 absolutely hates the Metler Varigaeted silk coverd thread. I tried a couple different spools of that thread and it does not work on my machine. Bummer cause it's beautiful thread!!!
