HI, I am busy making pincushions. Something that has turned into a lot of fun. I want to decorate with buttons. Also they are great for embellishing quilts, especially doll quilt size.

I find that Joann's source is limited and pricey. Where have all the buttons gone?

I remember when there used to be racks and racks of buttons... all sizes; all prices and a lot of colors. Thanks for your help in advance.

:-D

At the Hancock Fabric's I go to there's a whole wall that's just buttons.

An idea: could make your own covered buttons. Missouri Star Quilt sells kits to make covered buttons (comes with the button maker and buttons) for $1.95 and then the button refills are $1.50. How many buttons it comes with depends on the size.

Walmart has some decorative ones in bags that aren't terribly pricey, so does Michaels :D:D:D

I would love to see pictures of your pincushions. I have been thinking about making a turtle pincushion:)

Interesting! I just picked that pattern up on Friday. Haven't started that one yet. When I get a few more done I will post some photos. I will post a new topic when I do.

I found some really decorative ones with beads and buttons. :-D

Thanks for the tips. They reminded me that I had forgotten Michael's. We don't have Hancock's here. They closed it for weird reason. Silly them!

You might look at garage and yardsales. I used to find that buying old clothes meant great recycled buttons (often the buttons were worth more than the rest of it). I can buy an old stained button-down shirt, cut off the buttons (which are like new) and reuse them. Best of all, you usually get the correct number you need to make a shirt. None of the 2 or 3 buttons to a card thing.

Speaking of buttons, I need a realistic mother chick chicken button around 1/2" size. I'll be happy to send fabric in exchange. Please pm me.
