Use a magnet to pick up pins off the floor, but be careful not to put the magnet near a computerized machine.

good tip - An elderly custodian once showed me this trick to pick up staples from bulletin boards which his vacuum wouldn't suck up.

I also do a 'magnet scan' over finished baby quilts to make sure no pins got left behind.

I bought DH a nail picker upper for X-mas and it worked great on a whole container of pins I dropped one day - certainly saved my back!
