Default Calling All Artists!! Request Help with Impressionist Art

Hi all, I'm (again) reaching out to you for your assistance and expertise.

I'm making a quilt for my mother using the panel shown below. It's "At the Museum" featuring paintings by impressionist artists. Each painting was fussy cut and then bordered with strips of fabric that mimic picture frames. But I'm stumped with how to handle the blank area in the center of the quilt. Initially, I'd thought that a French symbol might work but then realized that not all of the artists were French. My plan is to embroider something.

My thought is some sort of motif or medallion but I'm uncertain what would be appropriate for the period.

I'd very much appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
Cathy

How about an artist's palette and paint brushes?

My first thought was a photo of your mother, manipulated to look like a painting in some photoshop program, printed on fabric, and framed as the others are. Just a thought.

I agree with the artist's palette and paint brushes. That would be easy to find in a book, and the put a clear plastic over and trace it in order to break it into applique pieces. I like what you are doing.

I like both the ideas above. You could also offset the two middle paintings toward the center and embroider just some small motifs in the wider border area there.

I like the idea of your Mom's picture. I think it would be more meaningful if you put your picture in the center. The quilt would be all about things she loves, made by someone she loves.

I'd like either the palette or the picture of your mother. which do you think SHE would like best. (Or maybe a picture of you with your mother.)

The prints would lend themselves to an attic window presentation.
