I am new to the whole separating fabrics from dark to light and I need to do that for the FWS that I want to make. I think I have a good start, but need to know if I should move some of them and also have no idea as to when to draw the line for the next categorie. According to Honchey's rotary cutting guides that she will be doing for the group, I need 5 different ones: Lights, Medium Lights, Medium, Medium Dark and Dark. Can you guys help me with this. Let me know if I should move some somewhere else and when to stop and start a different category? Thanks

Here is a picture of them all, but you can't see the numbers so I will do closeups also.

Looks to me as if you have done a pretty good job of sorting them out. I couldn't see anything that was really out of place.

Thanks, it took forever as I think I might be being to particular about it, I would just hate to be wrong on something like this on a project as big as the FWS. Do you know where I might separate the numbers to put them in separate bins?

Try taking a picture in black and white. That may help. It helped me when I needed to chose lights vs darks.

Could you cut a square of each and lay them out?

What's a FWS?

I did the black and white photo trick and it really helped when I was trying to sort 24 different fabrics. Some appear to be the same, so then you can choose the color that you want.

Funny thing about colors - what looks "dark" against a "light" can look "light" against a "dark"

The suggestion to get black and white pictures/scans/copies is a helpful one.

You asked about dividing lines between groups - I don't think there is that is one that is nice and definitive - it all depends on what you are working with.

Using the black & white photo is a great way to sort by tone, I also use a sheet of red plastic, and a sheet of green plastic together, they take all the colors out and leave the tones.
I picked them up at the hobby store for a buck a piece, & keep them in a ziplock bag... when ever I need to look at something on my design wall I just hold that up the sheets are 81/2 x11 so you can look at a large area.
