    Default 1930's Machine Quilting Pattern(s)??

Finished piecing my quilt top made with 30's fabrics but now don't have a clue what type of machine quilting pattern to use. Anyone have any suggestions? Lily, my inspector/supervisor, loves it when I finish one because she knows Mom will sit and cuddle with her on the loveseat for awhile.

That is beautiful and oooohhh lots of quilting opportunities!! I'm going to approach this from a hand quilting perspective because that is what i do....

I'd shadow quilt around the squares and triangles. Or you could shadow quilt around the triangles and make an X thru the 4patch squares.

I'd find a border stencil to use in the white areas/sashing.

The rest of the borders could be done in a cross-hatching or a combination of other border stencils.

I realize that you are wanting to machine quilt this, but maybe this can give you some ideas.

Simple crosshatch would like nice with these fabrics and pattern. I look forward to seeing what you pick. Nice quilt. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful quilt! Baptist Fan was a popular quilting pattern back then, and it would make a nice counterpoint to the geometric pattern.

they did a lot of shadow quilting, or SID, but I think a Baptist fan or clam shell would also be nice!

I just checked a book out of our library. It is called Quilting Designs from the Past by Jenny Carr Kinney. It has over 300 historically accurate quilting designs from 1810-1940. It is a fascinating study of quilting...no meandering or stippling... instead the designs are well planned and many are not that difficult.
