It depends on the corduroy. A wider wale corduroy would be heavier and take longer to dry, but you might not need a batting for that, so it could even out.

I've used it as a top and as a backing and it seems to work fine. I do prewash the corduroy, so have no problems with shrinking.

I used corduroy in tops and as backing, I did just use flannel for the batting and they were wonderful, washed up soft and cozy!

Not meaning to be rude but, if your friend didn't ask for advice and has previously seemed to resent suggestions, I wouldn't tell her what to do with her quilt. Sometimes the best lessons we learn are from those things that we do ourselves.

Actually, I didn't offer her any advice after all. I think she will be happy with what she has. I have told her there are no quilt police. Need to mean what I say.

I did use corduroy on one quilt... on the top. I really like how it looked. It was a pretty small wale but I was happy with it

My mom made one when I was about 12yrs. old, my sister and I had to tie it, it was very heavy! It is still in use. HaHa, it weighted a ton and was hard to roll over in bed.

I think corduroy is fine if a person wants a heavy quilt. In my mind corduroy is kind of masculine and woodsy -- it goes with flannel and denim. It just would seem odd to me on a Hawaiian (tropical) themed quilt. But to each her own!

I made a reversible quilt for a friend that was corduroy front and back. I used fairly large blocks and tied it at the intersections of the blocks.
She supplied the various corduroy pieces which were all different weights and wale widths as well as different colors. Made for an interesting challenge to be sure!

I would use any fabric mix but I would prewash everything. If we can use any fabric why don't we see these in quilt shows?
