Hi Quilting Friends! I need some suggestions . . . . I am in charge of planning a 2012 quilting retreat for a group of quilters in WV. We need something "spectacular" sometime after the 4th of July, 2012. We would like to have classes available, shopping and of course good food!

Thanks!
Susie

I know Kimberly Einmo. She does work with Jelly Rolls and has written several books. Check out her website www.kimberlyeinmo.com.

Good Luck!

If you mean to come to you, I'm no help. But, if you mean to go somewhere.....I would suggest the Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon. The whole week before the show on Saturday has classes and other activites.

Guess I need to clarify a little . . . we would like to go to a retreat/event with a driving distance of approximately 6 hours or less. Maybe Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio or Tennessee.

Thanks for any suggestions!

A lot of members from our guild go to Amish country south of Canton for a weekend. Lots of shops and fantastic food but from what I understand they like to have food they prepare themselves. My sister went once and they did a mystery quilt. I can find out where they went exactly if you want,

I think it would be fun to go to Amish country for a quilt retreat, find out and let us know all about it. Maybe we could meet up there. It would be a blast!

Hi Susie,
Berea Kentucky has a very nice small quilt show the first weekend in August. There is always a nationally known quilt instructor during the week prior to the quilt show. The quilt show has demonstrations, a vendors market, and of course quilts. Berea is the arts and crafts capital of Kentucky and has several working artists studios as well as the artisan center. The historic Boone Tavern is a very lovely place to stay. There are also some beautiful Bed and Breakfast places in the area.
It looks like Berea is about 6 hours away. Berea itself is a dry town but there are places nearby that serve alcohol if that is a desired feature. See www.berea.com or www.bereaARTScouncil.org for more information. The tab at the top of the Arts Council page that says QE2011 has information about this year's quilt show. You can also see the Quilt Artists of Kentucky past exhibits on that page under the Exhibits tab. Feel free to email me if you are interest in more information about Berea.
Where ever your adventures take you, I hope you have a great time!
Linda
