I've found a ton of tutorial on cathedral windows but can not for the life of me figure out how to get the colored piece in the middle. I guess I'm being dense but it doesn't make sense to me.

Does anyone have a clear, dumbed down version of how to make these?

Thanks!
Suzanne

Yes definitely do a search here and also look on YouTube so you can actually see how it's done. There are many ways to do Cathedral Window.

I've looked at all of them and it just doesn't make any sense to me. I guess I need to play with it.

Thanks for the info!

I wish that I could be more help. Do you have a LQS where you can take a block and have them help you? Don't give up.

A LQS is a great idea - and definitely don't give up. {{{{{hugs}}}}}

You place the colored piece on top, then fold each of 4 sides over on top of it. You don't actually put the colored piece inside of anything. It sits on top of what you have already done until you manually fold each edge of the solid-colored fabric over it.

When you sew four of the background blocks together, the patch goes over the 4-way intersection. The bias edgings are then folded over and sewn over the raw edges of the patch, giving you the curved edge. Does this help?
