My local Jo Ann Fabrics doesn't have the Silicon sheets recommended in the tutorial I found for making bias tape celtic knots, would heat safe mylar work? I'm not using my big iron, but rather my small Clover iron I use for applique. Just curious if #1 the adhesive will remove when I go to transfer the design, and #2 if it's too much heat.

We did a bias Celtic Heart without. The instructor had us sew 3/8 inch strips, cut the excess seam off, and use a press bar to put the seam to the underside.

We had traced the design on fabric of our choice and just glued down the over and unders at the same time. (Heart was 2 color)

I've used this since for stained glass applique.

the silicone pressing sheets specifically made for fusible applique protects your work surface from getting any fusible on it- allows you to build appliques- then when cool peel them off the sheet & place them onto the background fabric- I've done lots of Celtic knot & stained glass applique- I've never needed my pressing sheet for that- I lightly trace my design onto the background fabric- then place the fusible bias tape along the lines- pressing as I go- there is no danger of any fusible getting on anything it shouldn't ..I tried a Mylar template sheet once- it did not go so good- made a mess of the Mylar- if you do a lot of applique a pressing sheet does come in very handy- you could order one from Joannes on line- or Nancy's Notions, Keepsake Quilting, Connecting Threads, Hobby Lobby, Fon's & Porters love of quilting, Piece of Cake Quilting and many more- places carry them- I bought mine from my local quilt shop 8 or 9 years ago it is a fon's & porter one

You can use parchment paper. The kind of paper you line cookie sheets with (not waxed paper or freezer paper).

Thank you all - I appreciate all of your input! I'm going to attempt it with freezer paper - trace the design onto freezer paper then stabilize it by adhering the freezer paper to my ironing board. I'm impatient and wanted to work on this tonight or tomorrow so that's why I don't want to order anything - I may order one just to have but in the mean time I'm going to try this.
