Can anyone tell me where to get "chalkboard fabric". LQS had adorable kids place mats with chalkboard fabric as the center. Unfortunately they got only one order of it, then have been unable to get anymore.

Fabric.com has some
Do a Google search for chalkboard fabric and you'll find a LOT of places with it.
Probably some fabric shops carry it also.

i'm wondering if it isn't such a good idea if stores are not still stocking it.

It's not that. It is awkward for some shops to cut and only a few of the manufacturers have it, so if you aren't buying from those manufacturers, it is hard to source. You wouldn't know where to get it....

lqs's have limited space for fabrics- and they may order something like that to try out- see how it goes- but if it takes them a couple years to sell it chances are they are not going to re-stock it-
they are going to put something else that comes along in that space- has nothing to do with the quality of the fabric-
chalkboard cloth is ok for what it is- some of the larger stores (ie: joannes, hancocks, hobby lobby, michaels) tend to keep it in stock- some lqs's keep ordering it because they have a group of people who make placemats for kids with it as a (continuing program) others ordered it once or twice and moved on

When I sell out of my roll, I won't be ordering it any more. I can hardly give it away. Nancy's Notion's had a pattern book/cd with quite a few ideas and also demonstrated it on a show. Not a hot seller here.

Walmart here sells it prepacked. I think it's 5 yards, maybe more, don't remember. I need to buy a package to have in my stash.
