Welcome to the Quilting Board!

In order to take a tax deduction the charity has to be a non-profit, not all of them are. My advise would be to call your local police, fire department, hospitals, and any other organization in your town. Pick one that you like, one that pulls your heart strings. Inquire if they have a need for the quilts and decide then who you want to give then to.
Hospice will generally take all types of quilts and they are much appreciated.

It is a big bother to claim them on our taxes and unless you need the write off it is not worth the trouble. If you are retired it is unlikely you would have enough deductions to so anything but take the standard deduction.
Wow! What a generous group of quilters. You have given me so many great ideas, Thanks! I'm not very good at keeping records, so I think the tax deduction idea is not going to work for me :-)
