After spending WAY too much on my last three quilts, I decided to think thriftier and came up with this idea. I love consignment sales and as I am looking for clothes for my kids I check out the receiving blankets. Flannel in cute kid patterns. I am storing up to make baby quilts using the string-quilt-as-you-go method. These will be my backings. All 13 blankets for $10 and 4 of them are brand new. I estimate at least 1/2 - 1 yard in each blanket.

What a great fabric source and most of those are 100% cotton. Thanks for sharing

Great idea. The blankets are made from good flannel so they will last through many washing.

Great idea, between the strings on the top and the flannel underneath the quilts will be warm and cuddly. May in Jersey

I always hit the " textile aisle" when in good will... It's almost my favorite place to shop.... I'm such a cheapy...smile... but gosh darn it.. sewing/quilting is SO expensive these days!

I also hit the large mens and ladies dept. There's alot of fabric in some of those shirts/skirts/dresses!!
